What Next?
If you want to see the Moth Class in the 2012 Games, then you will need to talk to your ISAF Council representative or National Sailing Federation (NSF) to voice your opinion on the matter.
Unfortunately it is never as easy as just choosing the most suitable boat for each Olympic Event. Each country and ISAF representative would have their own criteria and generally speaking (whether you like it or not), it normally has a lot to do with their own country's potential to win as many medals as possible in each Event or Equipment/Class.
So therefore, if you have an active local Moth fleet is or there is potential from new Moth sailors to do well on an International level, please let your NSF know this, as they may not even be aware that they had any Moths in their country.
How The Selection Process Works
- The decision will be made the 2008 Annual ISAF Conference in Madrid, Spain.
- Firstly the ISAF Equipment and Events Sub Committee will review all the Equipment/Class nominations for each Olympic Event and make a recommendation to the ISAF Equipment and Events Committee.
- The ISAF Equipment and ISAF Events committee will then make their recommendations to ISAF Council.
- The ISAF Council will then vote on their preferred International Class for each Event. In the past, this has done by process of elimination, ie removing the Class with the lowest votes received and revoting until there is only two Classes left.
